Actually this cafe appeared many times, because this alley was one of the alleys on the way to Hae Young and Do Kyung’s place in the drama (in reality, it is in Samcheong Dong, not Pyeongchang Dong). Hae Young and Do Kyung also ate inside it once in Ep 4.
I intended to write about it later, but after watching last night’s ep (Ep 9), when I saw this place appeared just before the kiss scene when they took a turn at the corner of the alley, then I thought ok I need to write about it now. (LOL) However, when I actually searched the alleys close by, I didn’t see that wall with some climbing plants, it might be because the daum street view was taken in winter (as seen from the snow on the ground), so you can go check the alleys nearby if you get the chance to go, to see if they have filmed that kiss scene somewhere nearby.
This place also has appeared in Ep 169 of We Got Married. (I found when I was doing research of the place.)
For you to review this kiss scene to search for clues.
This is the street view from daum map, you can see it is the same place.
This is in Samcheong Dong, just walk there from exit 1 of Anguk station, and the cafe is the place with the blue marker. Gyeongbukgong is the area in green on the left hand side.
Take bus 1711, 1020 (exit 3 of Gyeongbukgong Station). Get off at Lotte Apartment Station 롯데아파트 정류장(marked in red), the cafe (marked in blue) is just less than 400m walking distance.
Pyeongchangdong is known as Beverly Hills of Seoul, and if you watch Korean dramas, you will often see Pyeongchangdong or hear about it, as the rich male leads in dramas often live in this area. While you walk along the alleys, you will find quite a lot of art galleries. And right behind the area, Bukhansan mountain is there, and actually the Pyeongchangdong area is part of the hiking trail around Bukhansan (Course 6) known as Bukhansan Dulle-gil.
I like Gana Art Centre the most here among all of the art viewing places in this district. Gana Art Center is designed by world renowned architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, he is also the architect of Incheon International Airport. Don’t forget to pay attention to the building itself when you are visiting Gana Art Centre.
To go to Gana Art Centre, take bus 171, 1020 (exit 3 of Gyeongbukgong Station), and get off at Lotte Apartment Station 롯데아파트 정류장, cross the road and walk up for about 320m, Gana Art Centre will be on your right hand side. When I went there a couple of years ago, there was a restaurant which appeared in Korean drama- The Greatest Love, but it was expensive and the food was no good.
Pyeongchangdong is at the base of Bukhanshan. so it formed part of the path around the mountain, and lot of houses in Korean drama, for example, house of the male lead in Nine and the Greatest Love, I heard Heirs was also filmed around here. A restaurant and area around that restaurant was used in the filming of Secret Garden too. And there is also an alley walk you can do, if you follow that alley walk, you can go through most of the places used in these drama. Please get off earlier at Seoul Art High School/Pyeongchangdong Community Centre Bus Stop (서울예술고등학교.평창동주민센터). The Alley Walk map is below.
In the past few years, I saw FB posts from Korea Tourism Organisation recommending Changgyeonggung as the place to see flower blossoms in spring, so I have always wanted to find a chance to go visit, this year I finally went, and I found it just ok, not as beautiful as I thought it would be. Apart from the cherry blossoms near the entrance, most of the trees with blossoming flowers are solitary, so it didn’t look as spectacular as I have imagined.
However, inside Changgyeonggung, there is a lot of space and much less people compared to the other palaces, so I think it is a good place to be in Seoul if you want to find some quiet time and to relax.
P.S. This is the place Sejong built for Taejong (Yi Bang Won) and this is also the palace where Prince Sado died. Suddenly can correlate all these with Korean drama and movies after knowing these facts haha.
And the restaurant where Hyewon and Jo In Seo discussed about sending Seonjae to Germany is Cafe M. It is the place marked in the map below, the metro station above is Samseong Station, the orange ones are Daechi Station (left) and Hangnyeoul Station (right).
